Solaris Books' upcoming 2018 novel The Quantum Magician by debut author Derek Künsken, which we announced a few months ago, is making waves in the international market and we couldn't be more thrilled! SFWorld, one of the largest science fiction publishers in China and the world, will be publishing The Quantum Magician first in magazine serialization and then in book form.

To celebrate his upcoming novel and acclaimed short fiction already published by SFWorld, Derek will be a guest of honour at the 4th International Science Fiction Conference in Chengdu, China in November 2017. He'll join other science fiction literary luminaries, such as Robert J. Sawyer, Michael Swanwick, Cat Rambo and Mike Resnick at the conference.

Editor-in-Chief of Solaris, Jon Oliver had this to say:

"The Quantum Magician is a vast adventure and hard SF at its best. We're absolutely delighted with the attention that it's receiving internationally, and Derek's work will be a wonderful ambassador of English-language science fiction in China this fall."

Derek Künsken commented:

"I'm humbled by this invitation and can't wait to share The Quantum Magician with Chinese readers. One of the reasons I've always loved science fiction is because of how we can explore questions relevant to all humanity, and break down global barriers.

Solaris is excited that this debut author's work is causing such a splash. Künsken is a writer of immense talent and imagination and The Quantum Magician is a truly first-class debut from an imprint that is quickly gaining a reputation for publishing the best and brightest new names in genre fiction.

The Quantum Magician
by Derek Künsken

Belisarius is a quantum man, an engineered Homo quantus who fled the powerful insight of dangerously addictive quantum senses. He found a precarious balance as a con man, but when a client offers him untold wealth to move a squadron of warships across an enemy wormhole, he must embrace his birthright to even try. In fact, the job is so big that he'll need a crew built from all the new sub-branches of humanity. If he succeeds, he might trigger an interstellar war, but success might also point the way to the next step of Homo quantus evolution.

"With its audacious con job, scintillating future technology, and meditations on the nature of fractured humanity, The Quantum Magician is a pleasure to read." – Yoon Ha Lee
