Solaris Acquires New Juliet E McKenna Trilogy

Solaris

Solaris is delighted to have purchased two new books, an anthology from Ellen Datlow, and a second Quincey Morris novel by Justin Gustainis.

Poe

To coincide with the 200th anniversary of the birth of Edgar Allan Poe, Solaris are pleased to announce an anthology of remixed and reimagined tales inspired by his work and edited by multi-award winner, Ellen Datlow.

Top genre names including Sharyn McCrumb, Lucius Shepard, Pat Cadigan and M. Rickert are lending their talent to this project, retelling such classics as The Fall of the House of Usher, The Tell-Tale Heart and The Masque of the Red Death.

The anthology, simply entitled Poe, will be published in both the US and UK, in January 2009.

Solaris editor Christian Dunn said: “Poe was one of the most important figures American literature, and a pioneer of genre fiction. We felt it essential to celebrate this milestone date, and this was a wonderful way to honour his work.”

As fiction editor of Omni magazine and Omni Online from 1981 through 1998, Ellen Datlow encouraged and helped develop an entire generation of fiction writers, and has published some of today's biggest names in the SF, fantasy and horror genres. She was then the editor of Event Horizon: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror, a Webzine founded in September 1998 that remained active until December 1999. From 2000 until the end of 2005, Datlow was the editor of the groundbreaking online publication Sci Fiction for the Sci Fi Channel's, SciFi.com, the Web's leading Science Fiction Web site.

Ellen Datlow is currently tied for winning the most World Fantasy Awards in the organization's history (seven).

Evil Ways

Hot on the heels of Black Magic Woman, Justin Gustainis’s breakthrough dark fantasy, comes the second Quincey Morris investigation.

In a story that ranges from Baghdad to L.A., Evil Ways sees eccentric billionaire, Walter Grobius, attempt to unleash a devastating magical apocalypse. Quincey Morris, and his partner, white witch Libby Chastain, are drawn into their deadliest case yet…

Justin Gustainis had this to say about the deal: “I’m extremely gratified that Solaris have enough faith in me to commit to a series. And I can’t wait to see what dark pathways Quincey and Libby will be travelling next.”

A mass-market edition of Black Magic Woman will be published alongside Evil Ways.

Praise for Justin Gustainis:
“Black Magic Woman is the best manuscript I’ve ever been asked to read. Keep an eye on Justin Gustainis. You’ll be seeing more of him soon.”
—Jim Butcher, creator of the Dresden Files.

“This one’s a real page-turner and a solid start to a new paranormal detective series.”
—Elaine Cunningham, author of Shadow in the Darkness and Shadows in the Starlight

“Justin is a first class writer; he’s smart and he’s fun, he moves quickly and he takes corners at speed… His characters are sharp and vivid, his dialogue crackles with wit and tension, and when it comes to the scarier corners of the magical underworld, he knows his stuff.”
Simon R. Green, author of the Nightside series
